Today, the centre focuses on five key principles to reach out to disadvantaged young people in Singapore:
They are:
1. To help students with low interest in studies and inability to study effectively realise their potential.
2. To help students with delinquent behaviours correct their actions and mindset.
3. To help students with low self-esteem gain confidence.
4. To help potential school dropouts stay in school.
5. To provide free meals to students from financially disadvantaged families.
6. To provide financial assistance to needy students.

Sandra Seah
Board Member - Student Advisory Centre (SAC)
Partner in ATMD Bird & Bird LLP

Q: Why are you doing this?
(After consulting book of cliche) It is to raise $$$ for a worthy cause! Plus, it was also in the fine print somewhere that the Board Members of Charties aren't allowed to just sit on the board, they have to create a splash too!
Q: 5km or 10?
I am not particularly keen to be a statistic! 5km of course! And even then, it is going to be a bit of a stretch.
Q: (Sternly) Have you trained for this?
I can do a head stand - sometimes. It is too late to physically train now. I hope (fervently!) that endorphins and a favourable tide will float me through on swim day!
Q: Any motivating thoughts to share?
Celebrate your life, your abilities, your friends and your family! And while you are at it, do something once in a while for others!

Vivian Chee
A working mother of four, with the latest addition to her family being a 10 month old baby boy! Congratulations Vivian! This power mum enjoys participating in Charity sporting events, seeing that it is healthy, rewarding and meaningful and is looking forward to participating in Charity Swim 2011. Vivian has participated in a few triathlons and running events, but is relatively new to swimming but has worked hard at training at it.
Personal Message: I find doing sports for Charity so meaningful and really look forward to such events! As you know I have 4 kids and struggling between work and family, training was indeed tough! I am grateful and blessed with a very supportive family that allows me to participate in triathlons and running events. I am very happy to also learn that by participating in this swimming event, we can contribute to charity and I hope all the passion swimmers can be united to swim for good cause!

Gareth Pearson
Gareth is a practising dentist in Singapore from the United Kingdom. He has been working in Singapore for almost ten years. Gareth has a keen interest in endurance events, having run several marathons. In 1995, he spent two months at sea, rowing across the Atlantic Ocen with his brother. He swims with the sea monstra guys at East Coast on Saturdays and participated in the Marang-Kapas 6.5km swim in Malaysia this April.
Personal Message: I have always been interested in endurance events and I wanted to get back into swimming, a hobby I had neglected for years. I began to take it seriously again at the start of the year. I'm very much looking forward to the challenge of a 10km swim here at "home" in November and help out with a worthy charity!

  Kevin Lee
Kevin has done several marathons previously but this is his flagship long distance swim event.  The thought of swimming for charity thrills him further to train well for this event.  Kevin feels the organising team has done a great job to support the swimmers and is looking forward to many more charity swims after this.
Personal Message:
Its all about spirit and effort for the less fortunate in the community.  "Life's like a boom-a-rang. The more good you throw out, the more you receive in return." -- Josh S. Hinds
